Doom! Doom! DOOM!!!

In a research facility on Mars owned by the Union Aerospace Corporation, facility director Samuel Hayden's mind now inhabits an android body after having lost his original to brain cancer. Researchers attempted to draw energy from Hell in order to solve an energy crisis on Earth, utilizing what would be known as the Argent Tower, which siphons energy & allows travel to and from Hell. Dr. Hayden has already led multiple expeditions into Hell, bringing back captive demons and artifacts for study. One artifact was a sarcophagus containing the Doom Slayer (along with his Praetor Suit), whom the demons imprisoned after his earlier rampage through Hell.

Though now a couple of years since its debut, Doom is once again wreaking havoc for the denizens of both Earth & Hell. Your task...to annihilate the demon horde that threatens to take over a scientific laboratory located on Mars. This is the future, the future turns out to be harvesting the hellish energies of Hell to power the future of Mankind...or so some arrogantly thought....

Glory Be To The King of Shooters!

A lot can be said for the newest iteration of Doom from Bethesda. While years in the making, & formerly named Doom 4, Doom capitalizes on its namesake, loaded with bad-ass guns, & ammo seeking fresh demon flesh to tear into. Graphically, Doom delivers on all points. Comparisons from previous versions against the Nintendo Switch version shows only a small downgrade in favor of portability. All versions showcase high-resolution arena-style mayhem. The action is fast-paced, the demons in single-player are numerous. The audio is par on perfect! Each murderous growl of a demon, every slight nuance from Dr. Hayden, Doom delivers a crystal clear audio experience for fans. Pay close attention to sounds coming around corners. These clues become vital the further in game you travel.

Not All Is Doom-Worthy

While I found Doom to be a thoroughly enjoyable romp in Hell Park, I also found the controls for the Nintendo Switch version were less than desirable. Throughout much of the game, I was unable to fully utilize the left joy-con to level up various weapons, or power-ups. After contacting both Bethesda & Nintendo both, I was very un-impressed with both customer services. Controlling my marine was simple & intuitive, yet navigating the menu screens left me with virtually no left joy-stick features. Very cruddy if you ask me.

Multi-Player Fun

I am not the biggest fan of multi-player games; that being said, I did take Doom out for some multi-playing mischief & found the game to struggle reliving the glory days of Doom. While frenatic & hurried, I felt the game left something to be desired moreso for multi-players only. Before purchase, I did my research & learned that the Switch version lacked custom created levels which could’ve been fun to see too.

Overall

B+

Graphic: A | Story: B | Controls: C+ | Audio: B | Replay: B

Overall, Doom plays like a dream on the Nintendo Switch & its apparent any buyer of any system has a genuine, fun title to call their own. While graphically a notch lower on the Switch; the Switch version still ports crisp images with little slow-down in trade for the wonderful ability to take Doom wherever you decide. Though pricier on the Switch, & missing the custom level creator, Doom is still a great buy for whatever reason, on whatever system you find a great deal for.
